Joe Budden And Jay Electronica Had A War Of Words On The Internet Over These Comments About ‘A Written Testimony’

The exchange heated up following Joe’s remarks about Jay-Z’s performance on the album.

Jay Electonica’s long-awaited debut studio album, A Written Testimony, has elicited a myriad of responses from those in the hip-hop community once it finally landed on Friday (March 13).

  • New York rap icon Jay-Z was prominently featured throughout the project with credits on a number of tracks in addition to contributions from Travis Scott and The-Dream among others. Thus, Joe Budden and his co-hosts analyzed the project on The Joe Budden Podcast where they voiced sentiments similar to those of many listeners that felt Jay Electronica might have been overshadowed by his Roc Nation boss on the body of work.

“It is a mistake. As a rapper, I'm telling you, he got smacked around [by Jay-Z],” Joe opined on Saturday’s episode. “Granted, this is hate, but it's rapper hate. Because, when y'all move the goalpost, as a rapper, I see it. For the last decade, y'all have mentioned Jay Elec with Hov. And Jay Elec positions himself that way on arguably one of the greatest tracks ever on 'Exhibit C.' That is God-level rhyming.”

  • Joey’s thoughts went unchecked up until Jay came for Joe’s co-host, Rory. After catching wind of Joe’s critique, Jay posted a meme with Rory tagged in response to a tweet that claimed Joe had no classic records, and therefore his opinion was null. His post incited some words from Joe, who took to Twitter on Tuesday (March 17) with a response.

“I never got absolutely mopped around on my own project either,” Budden issued as a rebuttal. “I never heard your albums bro," Electronica wrote back. “May Allah bless your career as a journalist.”

“I took you off yours & it’s a Hov mixtape now… Peace be unto you as well King,” Joe snapped back.

After Joey’s last response, it appears things have gone quiet between the two. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the fans of both men press them to take their war of words to the rap ring.
