Remy Ma Announces All-Female Battle Rap League
Remy Ma is starting an all-female battle rap league. The Bronx native announced earlier this month the launch of her latest company Chrom 23.
During a recent interview with OTFMZ Battle Rap Media, the 41-year-old explained that the league's name is short for "Chromosome 23," before opening up about the importance of highlighting the female emcees in the battle community. “I just want all the women that have ever put their blood, sweat, and tears into this, [and] that’s been doing this for years to get a chance to really make some decent money,” she said.
The rapper also had a message for anyone who might be opposed to her starting a new league, stating that “Anyone… that feels like I’m trying to take somebody’s place or feels like I‘m trying to step on somebody’s toes, y’all are more than welcome to donate to the cause.”
The “Wake Me Up” emcee noted that it’s costing her “hundreds of thousands of dollars” of her own money to put the brand together, so critics are “welcome to come in and assist.” She added, “I’m not doing this because of me. I’m not trying to be cocky or nothing. I’m rich, I really am.”
The first event is scheduled for Saturday (Feb. 12) and will feature some familiar faces in the battle rap scene including, 40 B.A.R.R.S, Ms. Hustle, and Jaz the Rapper, who are set to battle each other and other participants.
