And Now, A Word From Diddy To Light-Skinned Black People...
Diddy wants to make one thing very clear: there won’t be any dividing and conquering going on among 2018’s Black excellence, and that goes for the light-skinned Black folks, especially.
The New York hip-hop mogul took to Instagram for his “#BlackExcellence public service announcement,” where he apologized to his fellow Black brothers and sisters of all shades, including “light-skinned, caramel, high-yellow, redbone” individuals.
“We are family,” he said. “I’m sorry if I made y’all feel like y’all weren’t a part of the Black Excellence because I’m so chocolatey, but it’s no divide and conquer going on here.”
He reminded them again that they are just as belonging to the melanin family tree as everyone else, for better or for worse.
“So I just need all my light-skinned brothers and sisters to really join the movement,” he said over laughter. “For real—don’t act light-skinned now! Black Excellence.”
Instagram’s Champagine Papi, a.k.a. Drake (who is quite evidently part of the crowd Diddy addressed), took his message in with open arms.
“Man we needed this thank you brother,” he said, followed by a trio of crying-face emojis.
We love a good message of Black unity, Brother Love!
