Target's New Swimwear Ad is Fit for Every Body
What it means to be sexy, smart, and beautiful is more clear in the latest advertisements from Target.
The retailer is taking aim at the lack of diversity in mainstream media with a campaign designed to encourage "every body" to dive into swimwear this season. The print ad (seen above) and accompanying video features bloggers Nashelly Messina, Nikki Minton, Sarah Boyd and Chantè Burkett embracing their flaws and accentuating their perfection.
“It’s shocking and sad that we’re still talking about these types of campaigns as ‘innovative,'” Messina said, according to The Grio. “I hope women are encouraged to love their bodies and celebrate their best assets and know that we all have imperfections, and that’s OK."
"Being the only plus size girl in this swimsuit campaign really challenged my confidence," Burkett (pictured far R) adds via her blog, Everything Curvy and Chic, "and to be honest I never felt more confident in my life."
The women met with Target's lead stylist Zanna Roberts Rassi to find the most desirable fit, and only "light body edits" were involved in the final photos. Burkett makes her splash in a high waisted bikini.
"Target wanted to showcase real women in swimsuits and if this isn't real I don't know what is," she wrote. "... This campaign means the world to me and I know it will mean even more to girls who look just like me."
