It's Official: Kanye West Has Cut a Tie With Jay-Z
As more days go by in celebration of Jay-Z’s "4:44" album release, so does more questions as to where he’s standing with his longtime collaborator, producer, and above all, friend Kanye West.
Unfortunately enough, a new report from Billboard revealing that ‘Ye has departed from Jay’s Tidal music-streaming service may be answering that curiosity.
According to Billboard’s unidentified source, who is reportedly close to Yeezy, the G.O.O.D. Music leader has severed ties with the streaming platform over some financial hiccups. ‘Ye is allegedly owed a few millions from Tidal after his Life of Pablo album exclusive, as previously revealed by TMZ, which he also claims raked in over a million new subscribers also. ‘Ye was reported to receive a bonus for the enhancement, as well as payment for music videos on the platform. Both payment obligations from Tidal, TMZ reported, have yet to go through.
That same report held Tidal’s stance, claiming that ‘Ye never followed through with the aforementioned visuals, which were also mandated by contract. Tidal also reportedly held a lawsuit threat against West should he decide to sign for an exclusivity contract with any other streaming service while still bound to the contract. What the split means for fans is no more Kanye Tidal exclusives, as all of his future music releases will become available elsewhere.
For the sake of the throne, let’s hope both parties can reach a common ground before things get any worse.
