Before They Met The Sistas: Maurice, Preston, and Calvin in Real Life
We previously gave you a glimpse into the careers of Devale Ellis (Zac), Chido Nwodkocha (Gary), and Kevin A. Walton (Aaron) and how they got to Sistas. But today, we’re back with another group of our favorite men from the Tyler Perry drama. This time, we’re digging into the acting journeys of Brian Jordan Jr (Maurice), Trinity Whiteside (Preston) and Anthony Dalton (Calvin).
Brian Jordan Jr - Maurice
On Sistas, Maurice is Sabrina’s romantically bumbling, larger-than-life best friend. In real life, the actor behind the character is a multi-hyphenate singer, actor and dancer. Jordan Jr is from Baton Rouge and received theater training at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He also trained at Debbie Allen’s Dance Academy. In 2013, he appeared in Kenya Moore’s music video for “Gone With the Wind Fabulous.” He also made small appearances in a few films before landing the life-changing role of Maurice. Earlier this year, it was announced that he would direct and choreograph a production of The Wiz for Atlanta’s True Colors company. He has also been vocal about the importance of LGBTQ characters on screen.
Trinity Whiteside - Preston
Trinity Whiteside plays Preston, a country white man in a relationship with Danni. However, in real life, the North Carolina native is biracial. He has discussed in interviews that, while he is aware of his ancestry and how he presents, he identifies as Black and playing Preston has been a challenge for him. According to IMDB, he was identified as an intellectually gifted child at a young age and scored high on achievement tests. He grew up with a fondness of drawing and also acting. But it wasn’t until 2013 that he began to take the latter seriously at the suggestion of his wife — yup, he’s married. From there, he ended up in small roles on BET’s The Game, The Originals, The Hunger Games, Barbershop 3, The Fate of The Furious and more. And the rest is history.
Anthony Dalton II - Calvin
Anthony Dalton is in good company with the other men on this cast. Like some of them, he is also an athlete and studied theater. Dalton, who grew up in Indianapolis, IN, played football at the University of Akron. He graduated from college with a degree in theater. He began racking up acting credits in 2007. He played several roles in a variety of TV and film projects such as The Single Mom’s Club, Barbershop: The Next Cut, The Vampire Diaries and more before he landed Sistas.
