Lupita Nyong'o is getting ready to travel to a galaxy far, far away. The Oscar-winning actress has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars reboot, producers confirm. Nyong'o and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie are the latest added to the ensemble, which already includes John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis and more.
"I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."
Rumors have been swirling for months that Nyong'o, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave, would be joining the historic franchise. Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams. The nature of Nyong'o's role is yet to be revealed.
