Image of the Week: Darrell Issa on Blast

Democrats demand a public apology from Rep. Darrell Issa for his "offensive" behavior.

Democrats are still fuming over Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa's behavior at a hearing on the IRS's scrutiny of certain groups when he unceremoniously cut off the microphone as the committee's ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings, attempted to make a statement.

Thursday evening they demanded an apology from the California lawmaker for what they say is a pattern of offensive behavior. Dozens of members held up photocopies, tablets and mobile phones of the image of Issa using the "Cut!" gesture to instruct staffers to shut off Cummings' microphone.

"Chairman Issa's behavior is unbecoming of a member of Congress and he needs to publicly apologize in the House for his offensive actions," said Rep. Dan Kildee, who presented the resolution condemning Issa for this and other similar clashes with Democrats.

It was the Democrats' second attempt to rebuke and demand a public apology from Issa, who called Cummings in the days following the incident to express regret for his actions. Thursday's resolution failed by a vote of 217-163, with six Republicans and four Democrats not taking a stand by voting present.
