Kanye West and Mos Def Deliver Surprise Freestyle at Blue Note Jazz Show
Attendees to Jazz ensemble The Robert Glasper Experience's show at the Blue Note in New York last night were treated with two big surprises: Mos Def and Kanye West.
The hip hop friendly jazz pianist Glasper had already been doing shows with another post-backpacker in Lupe Fiasco; but for his last night in the Big Apple, the big guns came out.
Kanye took the stage and performed a rare impromptu freestyle, touching on issues from the illuminati, to the glowing reviews for his last album, to his infamous 2009 VMA scandal.
"Now I hear all this Illuminati talk / Like my first hit single wasn't 'Jesus Walks!'" Ye barks with feeling.
Mos Def closes out the evening with a few bars of his own over Dilla-inspired instrumentation. Hear both performances as well as a jazz rendition of Lupe's classic "Kick, Push" (above).
