Chris Rock Will Not Host The Tony Awards
The New York Post reported that producers of the Tony Awards were looking to “shake up” the looming June 12 telecast by hiring popular Chris Rock as host. Rock was said to be the producers’ first choice to host the show. He hadn't been officially asked to do so just yet, but an offer was reportedly being put together.
If there were any time to book Rock, it would be now, given he is currently starring on Broadway in The Motherf----r with a Hat. Rock's participation in the play has garnered the production a lot of press. Rock himself has earned good reviews for his work, with the New York Times writing that he had "a solid Broadway debut."
However, EW.com reports that while Rock is open to participating in the show in some capacity, he will not be MCing the event.
Previous hosts of the Tony Awards include Whoopi Goldberg and Neil Patrick Harris.
