Colin Kaepernick's Jersey Is On Display In The MoMA's Latest Exhibit

The iconic museum highlights the former NFL star.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is known for its revolving exhibits that showcase what is considered "art" by today's standards. And in 2017, it's safe to say that fashion definitely falls into that category. The iconic museum located in New York City has decided to bring back fashion exhibits after 73 years. The jersey of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick is joining Yeezys and Supreme in the MoMa's new fashion exhibit.

The exhibit, "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" explores the present, past — and sometimes the future — of 111 items of clothing and accessories that have had a strong impact on the world in the 20th and 21st centuries and continue to hold currency today.

The fact that Kaepernick's jersey is a part of the "Items" exhibit serves great significance to the Black Lives Matter movement which he continuously advocates for, despite the consequences and backlash he's received. He's currently a free agent, but athletes and more continue to "take a knee," the protest against the national anthem and what it stands for that he initially began. This exhibit definitely serves as a historic moment and speaks to the impact his civil rights activism has made.

While we'd love to see Colin Kaepernick back on the field soon, in the meantime, be sure to check out the new exhibition. "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" is on display at the MoMA until January 2018.
