Resurfaced Clips Contradict Amber Rose’s Claims about Identifying as Black
Amber Rose has responded to Joy Reid after the MSNBC correspondent called out the reality star for delivering a pro-Donald Trump speech at the Republican National Convention earlier this week.
On Monday, Rose, known for organizing the Slut Walk, spoke at the conservative event, attributing her changed views on the former president to her pro-Trump father. She asserted that Trump and his supporters are inclusive of all races and sexual orientations, declaring, “And that’s when it hit me: These are my people. This is where I belong.”
Reid questioned the choice of Rose by the right, noting, “She's a racially ambiguous—I don't wanna say she's Black because she has said she's not.” The anchor referenced Rose's past relationship with Kanye West, emphasizing her cultural ties to the Black community despite her biracial identification.
She added, “And to say that this is the person who is the endorser of Donald Trump, who you should trust when she won't even claim the culture that brought her to the table. I'm dubious that this will work. I don't know anyone who takes their political cues from Amber Rose. But just in case you do, you might want to duplicate doing your own research because she might not have done it thoroughly.”
Rose, who identifies as “biracial,” caught wind of Reid’s comments and responded to her X account on Tuesday, writing, “Hi @JoyAnnReid I’ve never said I wasn’t black I said I identify as biracial. I’m not going to invalid [sic] my white father to make you feel more comfortable. Stop being a race baiter ur president does enough race baiting for all of us.”
However, the post was deleted later that evening after internet detectives uncovered a February 2015 interview where she told Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning that ”I do not consider myself a Black woman. Absolutely not.”
Despite the controversy, Rose remains steadfast in her support for the Republican party. Recently, she appeared in a pro-Trump rap video titled “Trump Trump Baby,” featuring Florida rapper Forgiato Blow and sampling Vanilla Ice’s "Ice Ice Baby," which premiered on Billboard earlier this month.
