Cam’Ron Celebrates His First Sneaker Selling Out With NYC Performance
Yesterday (April 20) saw the highly anticipated release of Cam’Ron’s collaboration with Reebok. The limited edition Reebok Ventilator Supremes, not surprisingly, sold out in under an hour, as Cam met with fans at a Jimmy Jazz shoe store in Harlem hours before rocking to a sold out crowd at B.B. King's in Times Square. Needless to say, yesterday was one for the veteran rapper’s memory books.
As told to The Source, Cam’Ron has been working with Reebok for a couple of years while also supporting their other sneakers, but is happy that it finally aligned for him to have a shoe to call his own.
“To be honest, I didn’t really have too much to do with the designing,” Cam admitted. “They have different designs that I say yes or no to, and they finally got one that I liked! That’s just facts. I don’t know the designer’s name but it was 100 percent him, he did this all by himself.”
The sneaker, inspired by Cam’Ron’s Purple Haze album, has fans hungry for the release of his second LP to share the same name, created just over 10 years later. Purple Haze 2 has reportedly been in the works for awhile now, but details have yet to be firmed up.
The rapper's sneakers definitely have the Killa Cam touch even if he wasn’t fully responsible for the design, with the insoles featuring the forever-memeworthy shot of him wearing pink fur on a pink flip phone and the outsides decked in shades of purple and a holographic oil-spill-esque heel. He also gave out special Cam-edition rolling papers, socks, Now & Later candy and a USB containing a brand new song to 500 lucky fans.
Bringing the party to a packed B.B. King's last night, as presented by the Smoker’s Club, Cam was joined on stage by Da$h and Kirk Knight, and brought out Dipset’s Juelz Santana as a surprise special guest. The Harlem natives went through some of their classic material together while people got lost in the music and celebrated the night how they saw fit.
Needless to say, Cam’Ron did it up big for 420. Peep his sneaker design below.
