Here's How Buying Jay-Z's '4:44' Can Lead to Amazing Seats at His Show
While the rollout for Jay-Z's acclaimed 4:44 album has been limited to specific digital retailers, the mogul is pushing the envelope even further by releasing the album on a “new” format: cassette tape. The nostalgic packaging is a limited edition novelty that could possibly offer the opportunity of a lifetime to one lucky fan ― side stage tickets to V Festival, which the "Legacy" rapper headlines.
The annual Virgin Records music festival is slated to be held in England on August 19 and 20, but the lucky winner of the contest will be chosen at random on August 7. According to Virgin EMI Records' site, contestants are required to purchase the 4:44 cassette prior to August 4 in order to be entered into the ticket raffle.
Jigga, however, isn't the first artist to bring it back to the age of cassette tapes. Eminem's critically-acclaimed The Slim Shady LP, Prince and the Revolution's Purple Rain, The Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness and others have seen reissues on tape. In fact, Nielsen Music reports that cassette album sales have grown by 74 percent since 2016.
Leave it to Hov to make cassettes a "new" trend in the age of streaming. Peep the promo below:
