2022 NAACP Image Awards: Meet Scot X. Esdaile the 'Activist of the Year'
Scot X Esdaile is the 2022 NAACP Image Award’s Activist of the Year recipient. The Connecticut NAACP president—who held the title since 2004—was recognized for his 35 years working with various grassroots organizations in his hometown of New Haven, CT, and on the national stage. Esdaile’s efforts also include pushing for jobs for those underresourced, opportunities for young people, racial justice, better schools, and fairer policing.

Esdaileis previously served seven years as New Haven’s NAACP president is also a national board member and criminal justice chair. He founded an organization that challenged the civil rights establishment called Elm City Nation. The activist started and serves as an executive producer for a hip-hop TV show titled That Life, which encourages a younger crop of young activists. As the first Black chairman of the Connecticut Boxing Commission, Esdaile is also fought to broaden opportunities for athletes in the ring.
