Dove Issues An Apology Over "Racist" Facebook Advertisement

"We deeply regret the offense it caused," the company tweeted.

It’s still hard to believe that Dove brand didn’t have anyone in their creative advertising department that said, “Yo, what are we thinking with this ad?”

  • If they did, maybe they would’ve been able to avoid the company’s latest blunder. A Facebook ad the company ran recently showed a black woman peeling off her T-shirt to reveal a white woman underneath her skin, which could be interpreted as their soap being used to lighten customer’s dirty skin.

  • “An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully,” the official Dove Twitter tweeted yesterday (October 7). “We deeply regret the offense it caused.”

  • The Facebook campaign has been removed.

Previously, Dove has made numerous missteps when it came to marketing products to women. For their body positivity campaign, the brand released a product line in the United Kingdom featuring six different shaped bottles representing that beauty “can come in all shapes and sizes.”

  • Needless to say, they got clowned for that as well.

Oh yeah, and then there was the time they ran an ad where three women standing together seemed to exemplify the message that if you use their product, your skin would become lighter (with how they were positioned).
