Gayle King Claims Oprah Advised Her to Stop Asking JAY-Z for an Interview
Gayle King fearlessly pursues what she wants, even if her close friend Oprah Winfrey advises otherwise.
The CBS broadcast journalist recently concluded an exclusive interview series with hip-hop mogul JAY-Z, offering unique glimpses into the Brooklyn native's career. The series also included a tour of the industry icon's new Book of HOV exhibit at the Brooklyn Library, showcasing his life's work.
While at the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix red carpet, Gayle reflected on the opportunity with Access Hollywood's Scott Evans. She admitted that she may have “groveled” in hopes of securing the interview with the “4:44” musician.
“I was really buzzing after, yeah, because you don’t know… You know he doesn’t like to do interviews. I think that I just groveled that it became embarrassing,” Gayle explained. “Even Oprah said, ‘You are making a damn fool of yourself. Stop asking him. He doesn’t want to do it.’ But I couldn’t let it go.”
The reporter’s time with the Roc Nation boss appeared in an hour-long special, “JAY-Z and Gayle King: Brooklyn’s Own,” aired last Tuesday (Nov 14). The 24-time Grammy-winning entertainer discussed various subjects, such as his upbringing in the city’s Marcy Houses, the challenges he faced in his early life, and how he utilized music as an escape route.
