Khalid Says He’s ‘Hurt’ Over Allegations of Paying for Escort, Denies Drug Usage
Khalid has given his first and final video statement on allegations made about him last week by a past dating partner.
On Monday, November 25, the “Location” singer responded to escorting and drug usage accusations made by Dominican singer and social media influencer Hugo D Almonte. Last Friday (November 22), Almonte posted a since-deleted X thread about artists he’s had sex with, claiming that “one of your favorite gay R&B singers” allegedly offered him drugs and “tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house,” per Rolling Stone.
After calling current queer artists “s****y as f**k,” Almonte posted a selfie of himself and Khalid. In a statement to RS, although not naming Khalid directly, Almonte claimed he wanted to “share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship.”
This caused the Georgia-born artist to be outed as gay, which he said he wasn’t “ashamed” of, followed by a series of X posts where he responded to followers who were either surprised or long assumed that he was queer.
But the artist was also attentive to comments accusing him of being an abuser, which he responded to in the 3-minute video below. Khalid explained that he’s “never done cocaine a day in my life,” along with denying that he’s accused anyone of breaking into his home, nor paid for an escorting or dating service. Khalid also said that he and Almonte dated four to five years ago.
“I’ve never accused anybody publicly of breaking into my house. The only people who even know about a break-in are my close circle. Nobody knew because I don’t want everybody in my business. Then again, y’all, this is four years ago,” he said.
Khalid added that he struggled with being “painted” as a “manipulative abuser” and that it was “triggering” to be accused of abuse “because it’s the other way around.”
“All of this is definitely frustrating,” Khalid added. “I’m not gonna run around like I’m unbothered. I never said I was unbothered by anything. This is very bothering…I had to say something.”
The singer signed off by saying that the scandal wasn’t a publicity stunt for any music that will soon be released.
