DJ Drama Makes Power Move With New LP
With his third studio album, Third Power, in stores today (October 11), DJ Drama tells BET.com that fans can look forward to the same quality of music as his previous 2007 debut Gangsta Grillz: The Album and his 2009 follow up effort, Gangsta Grillz: The Album Vol. 2
“The Third Power signifies my third wave to hip hop” says the DJ. “I’m basically looking to keep the momentum going and the movement of quality music going”
With features from Young Jeezy, Big Sean, J.Cole, Akon and Chris Brown, the Atlanta-based DJ is seemingly on pace to deliver top-shelf quality music. Already enjoying the warm reception garnered from his first single off Third Power, “Oh My,” featuring Roscoe Dash, Wiz Khalifa and Fabolous, the Aphilliates front man says timing is key.
“It [Oh My] came about organically. I ran into Roscoe at the “No Hands” video shoot and told him I wanted to get in the studio with him and we put the record together,” explains the DJ. “Later I took it to Fab, because we had just been working on There Is No Competition 2, and Wiz Just happened to be in town. Those are three artists that have three different fan bases and it just made sense, it felt good.”
Speaking of feeling good, Mr. Thanksgiving is pleased to be nominated for a 2011 BET Hip Hop Award, battling fellow mix masters like DJ Khaled and DJ Prostyle for DJ of the Year honors.
“I’m always happy to be nominated — it’s definitely a good look. Let’s see if we can bring it home.”
Drama says fans should be on the lookout for his second single “Ain’t No Way Around It” featuring ATL rapper Future.
