Twitter Lost It After Mikal Bridges Was Drafted To 76ers, Where His Mom Works, Only To Get Traded
For Mikal Bridges, a local of Philadelphia and former student of Villanova, his night at the NBA draft started with jubilation when the Philadelphia 76ers selected him with the No. 10. However, his jubilation quickly turned into an awkward moment when he was traded to the Phoenix Suns less than an hour later.
When Bridges was drafted, no one was quite as happy as his mother, Tyneeha Rivers, who works for the organization as the vice president of human resources at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which includes the Sixers.
After the 21-year-old was drafted, he was overwhelmed with emotion.
“It’s a great feeling to get picked by the Sixers,” Bridges said at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday night. “Just watching them, especially this year, growing up watching them, going to games when I was young, it’s a blessing. My mom working there, went to Villanova right around the corner, played in Wells Fargo throughout the whole year this year. It’s just truly a blessing.”
However, soon after the exciting news, a deal was underway to trade Bridges to Phoenix
As part of the deal, the Suns also gave the 76ers a 2021 first-round pick they had previously acquired from Miami.
As devastating as the news had to be for Bridges, people on Twitter could not help but think of his mother
