It’s pretty standard for a superstar like Chris Brown to have beefed up security. But maybe it’s not necessary to have this kind of firepower on you.

Brown’s bodyguard protects him with a gun, specifically a fully loaded Glock. Apparently, it’s illegal for him to carry it in California, so he got arrested for an illegal gun possession, which is a felony because he didn’t have a concealed weapons permit.

TMZ says Clay Lewis was on duty when Brown was out Sunday night at Penthouse nightclub in Hollywood. Police looked in Lewis’ car, where they found some rolling papers and a weed grinder. They asked to do a more thorough search and Lewis agreed. That was a bad move on his part because police found the weapon in the trunk. Although he has a permit in Florida to carry the weapon, he didn’t have one in California.

Eventually, Lewis posted $35,000 bail and was out a few hours later. A lesson from all of this: Make sure to have the right papers on you.
