Mo'ne Davis Gets Disney Movie: Throw Like Mo
Mo'ne Davis made history last year as the first girl to ever pitch a shutout in the Little League World Series, and then thrilled the crowd at Madison Square Garden last month with her mean crossover during NBA All-Star Weekend. Now the 13-year-old's inspiring story is getting the Disney treatment.
The budding athlete will be the subject of a Disney Channel biopic called Throw Like Mo, produced by Debra Martin Chase, Variety.com reports.
ESPNw, the women’s sports-focused unit that has covered Davis extensively, will consult on the movie, as will Davis.
“Mo’ne is not only a topnotch athlete in three different sports — baseball, basketball and soccer — but she is an exemplary student and someone who will remind our audiences that they can do anything with hard work, dedication and belief in themselves,” said Naketha Mattocks, VP of original movies for Disney Channels.
Adds Davis, who led her team, the Philadelphia Taney Dragons, to the pennant last June, “A year ago, I never would have thought that Disney Channel would make a movie about me. I can’t wait to get started, and I hope it will encourage other viewers to believe that dreams really do come true."
The tween prodigy was named AP's Female Athlete of the Year for 2014, has just published a memoir and has also launched her own shoe line to help underprivileged children. Davis has been named one of B*Real's Forty Under 40 Making History.
