'Concussion' Doctor Believes O.J. Simpson Has CTE
O.J. Simpson was notoriously found not guilty of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in his 1995 murder trial.
But if he did commit the crimes, then Dr. Bennet Omalu might have an explanation.
The doctor, who Will Smith portrays in the movie Concussion, told People magazine that he thinks Simpson might have brain damage from his 11-year NFL career.
"I would bet my medical license that he has CTE," Omalu said, referring to chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease found in a host of deceased NFL players, many of which exhibited erratic, violent and self-destroying behavior prior to their deaths.
"Given his profile, I think it's not an irresponsible conclusion to suspect he has CTE," Omalu concluded.
Interesting theory.
CTE, though, can only be diagnosed posthumously, so we will not know if Simpson currently suffers from the degenerative brain disease.
