Mark Ronson Defends Beyoncé, Andre 3000 "Back to Black" Cover

Producer says song is "wonderful," Amy Whinehouse's dad calls collab "terrible."

Producer Mark Ronson debuted the full-length version of the Amy Winehouse "Back to Black" remake with Beyoncé and Andre 3000, and he said it's "wonderful." Ronson produced the 2007 hit and co-produced Winehouse's entire Back to Black album along with Salaam Remi. He gave the single a spin on his East Village Radio this weekend (April 26). "It’s a wonderful sort of take on our song," he said. "I’m flattered and honored. I know Amy would be too."

Despite his stamp, Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse (who is also a singer), is still not impressed. He tweeted: "I just heard the Andre part of 'Back to Black.' Terrible. He should have let Beyoncé do it all. Mitch"

Previously, when the news of the song first began circulating, he told the Daily Mail, "I don’t think she [Beyoncé] brings anything to it … I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it [at first] … They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money."

The "Back to Black" cover is the first song to leak from The Great Gatsby soundtrack, co-produced by Jay-Z. The album is slated to release May 7 and also features new music from Jay, will.i.am, and Q-Tip with Fergie and GoonRock.
