Russo Brothers Believe Regé-Jean Page Is ‘Fantastic’ For James Bond Role
Production for a new James Bond film is on pause as the search for the lead role is still underway, following the hefty task of replacing actor Danielle Craig.
The Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo) believe that British actor Regé-Jean Page has the necessary “charisma” to pull off a James Bond performance.
According to Deadline, the directing duo spoke with RadioTimes.com about the talents of the Netflix series Bridgerton’s star.
Page’s charm and appearance have the Russo brothers convinced, saying, “He’s fantastic. I mean, he has more charisma in his pinky than most people do in their entire body,” said Joe Russo. “So you know, we’d watch him do anything – I mean we’d watch him read the phonebook!”
Anthony said Page is a “very savvy performer,” whose charm gives him a boost behind the camera.
In an interview with Deadline, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said, “there isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”
Bridgerton earned Page an Emmy nomination in 2021 for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series”. He also made an appearance in the 2022 action/thriller movie, The Gray Man.
As season three nears for the hit series Bridgerton, fans have been disappointed to learn that Page’s character Simon Basset will not be returning.
“No I’m not going back to the show btw,” the 34-year-old actor captioned an Instagram photo.
