Broncos' Brandon Marshall Gets Dropped By Air Academy Federal Credit Union For National Anthem Stance

Standing up for what he believes in cost him this much.

Broncos player Brandon Marshall is the latest to join Colin Kaepernick’s pre-game protest against the national anthem.

The football player decided to take a knee during the traditional performing of the anthem prior to his team playing the Carolina Panthers and his decision ended up costing him in a big way.

“I’m against social injustice. I’m not against the military, the police or America at all. I’m against social injustice,” Marshall explained during an interview.

While Kaepernick and Marshall alike have been hit with criticism for the decision to protest the national anthem before games, Marshall was hit with a significant punishment for his actions, losing an endorsement deal with the Air Academy Federal Credit Union.

While the player shares that his intentions are genuine and mean no harm or disrespect, the sponsoring company did not agree with his stance and decided to cease supporting the athlete.

“Although we have enjoyed Brandon Marshall as our spokesperson over the past five months, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) has ended our partnership,” president and CEP Glenn Strebe explained in a statement. “AAFCU is a membership-based organization who has proudly served the military community for over 60 years. While we respect Brandon’s right of expression, his actions are not a representation of our organization and membership. We wish Brandon well on his future endeavors.”

Marshall and Kaepernick were teammates in the past at the University of Nevada. The two athletes are standing in solidarity as these important conversations continue to hold a national spotlight.
