Glenn Beck Puts Obama Figure in Jar of "Pee Pee"
Right-wing radio host Glenn Beck has pulled a crude stunt.
He put a mason jar of yellow liquid up for sale on eBay for $25,000 which contained a figurine of President Obama. Beck initially stated the jar was full of his own urine and that he "drank a lot of water" for the piece.
The jar was taken off eBay on Wednesday, and he admitted that it was full of beer and not his urine.
The “artwork,” as Beck might call it, was a nod to Boston artist Michael D’Antuono, who painted the president in Jesus' likeness and outstretched on a cross. D’Antuono was forced to remove the art installation in New York City because people thought the depiction was too offensive.
In the video posted on his website, Beck criticized the cancellation of the exhibit and said that D’Antuono should have been able to exercise his First Amendment right.
"Art is in the eye of the beholder, and this guy has a right to do this. I think it’s offensive. I don't think it’s close to reality, but whatever floats your boat,” Beck said.
D'Antuono had originally planned to display the installation, titled "The Truth," in Union Square Park but, after receiving about 4,000 emails about his work, decided to pull the project. The concept of the piece centered on President Obama's critics and how he was crucified by the conservative media. The painting is now on display at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery in Boston.
"People were very upset and I was in no way comparing the president to Jesus," he said. "That wasn't the concept of the piece; I just took the things that were associated with Obama at the time."
