Horrific Details Behind Uber Driver's Arrest for Taking an Unconscious Passenger to a Motel Room and Sexually Assaulting Her

And why police believe Alaric Spence may have other victims.

Police in North Hollywood arrested an Uber driver who they suspected of sexually assaulting an unconscious 24-year-old passenger, reported KTLA.

Alaric Spence, 46, reportedly picked up the victim on June 23 from downtown Los Angeles. During the ride, the 24-year-old victim fell unconscious, possibly due to intoxication, said LAPD Capt. William Hayes, the commanding officer of LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

After the victim was unresponsive, Spence allegedly drove to a motel room on Lankershim Boulevard, where he sexually assaulted her, and left, according to Hayes.

Hours later, the victim woke up in the motel room and had no recollection of where she was or how she got there. She immediately called police, who took Spence into custody that evening, said LAPD.

Spence, who is being held on $1 million bail, was captured on surveillance taking the victim into the motel. Police believe Spence he may have sexually assaulted other victims.

“It doesn’t seem feasible that this would be the first time,” Hayes told KTLA. “He went to the hotel, rented a room, and then carried her from his car into the room, where he assaulted her. To do something that brazen…we would believe it’s something he’s done before.”

Although there are no reports of similar crimes, Hayes noted that  many sex assault victims do not report being attacked.

Spence was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping to commit sexual assault. The case is being presented to prosecutors for the consideration of charges.
