Two women were arrested at a Kansas City shopping center after leaving a baby in a hot car while they shopped.

Jamila Scott and Jaylyn Lux have been charged with child endangerment after a woman found an infant in a car over 86 degrees. The women were shopping in a CitiTrends while the baby was left in the car, with one window slightly cracked.

The woman told the manager of the CitiTrends, Kimberly Wilson, who then told shoppers that there was a baby left in a car and she was going to call the police. After Wilson made that announcement, Scott and Lux continued to shop.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, Scott asked one of them if they had seen a 9-month-old and said that she was the child’s aunt. The baby was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital and treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Lux and Scott were then immediately arrested, and during questioning by the police, Scott admitted to leaving the baby in the car.

The women are being held on a $20,000 bond.
