More Tears: Cause of Death Released on Toddler Attacked by Alligator at Disney World
The cause of death for 2-year-old Lane Graves after being dragged into a lake by an alligator has been determined. The medical examiner's office announced that he had died of drowning and traumatic injuries.
A team of 50 Orange County officials were involved in the search for the little boy's body, which was found around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday by a sheriff's department dive team with help of sonar devices.
On Thursday, a Walt Disney World official announced that the company has closed its beaches and will be conducting a "swift and thorough" review of its protocols. "This includes the number, placement and wording of our signage and warnings," VP Jacquee Wahler said.
As for the alligator, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said that so far, five alligators have been captured and euthanized. FWC executive director Nick Wiley said, "Although we have some sort of closure to this, our investigation is ongoing."
This was the first such incident at the Disney resort in its 45 years of existence, and now the company is doing all it can to ease the Graves' pain and make sure a tragedy like this will never occur again.
