K. Michelle Speaks Out About Facing Domestic Abuse in the Music Industry
Singer K. Michelle made an appearance last week on HuffPost Live to discuss her forthcoming album More Issues Than Vogue. Michelle ended up bravely opening up to host Altona Minkovski as the two discussed her experiences facing domestic abuse early on in her career in the music industry.
"When I first got into the business, I did go through a domestic violence situation with one of my executives and I was told to be quiet [by the higher-ups] and no one cared," Michelle said.
"I have spoken to women going through domestic violence and women who were told to, 'be quiet,'" the singer continued. "So I just decided that at this point in my career and in my life, if I have this pedestal that they're trying to place me upon, I'm going to use it."
Michelle brought up how its important to support women in similar situations and mentioned Kesha as a recent example. Kesha recently lost a battle in court to end a contract with Dr. Luke, who she has claimed sexually assaulted her in the past.
"Support is what's needed to make the changes within the industry and within other aspects of society right now," the singer said during the conversation.
