Report: Universal Eyeing Michael B. Jordan, Jonah Hill for Def Jam Biopic
The success of Straight Outta Compton is inspiring another hip hop biopic. Universal Pictures, the studio behind SOA, is pondering a film about Def Jam Records, with Jonah Hill and Michael B. Jordan starring as Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the flick will be adapted from Simmons’s 2002 book, Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money + God, which was co-written by journalist Nelson George.
The book follows Simmons and Rubin through the creation of Def Jam, sharing the ride from the label’s inception to becoming the imprint that changed music.
Hip hop-related film and TV projects are all the rage these days, as we’ve seen with the mega success of Fox’s Empire and SOA’s record-breaking run at the box office.
