Mac Miller Shares Unheard Stories on His 'Pink Slime' EP, Cam'ron's Christmas Album and More

ItsTheReal sits down with Mac Miller for a dope interview.

Mac Miller was the latest guest on hip hop sketch comedians' ItsTheReal’s new podcast, A Waste of Time, and he opened up about everything from his Pharrell-produced EP Pink Slime to a supposed Christmas album with Cam’ron that never got released.

The Pittsburgh MC, who is currently residing in Brooklyn, invited ItsTheReal to his home. They did a special live broadcast instead of conducting it at their Upper West Side apartment. Mac revealed about his time spent at Rick Rubin’s house in Los Angeles, which was used to help him detox. “I did like a few weeks and months of straight sobriety,” he says. He also spoke about how his relationship started with Rubin — first it was to play him music — then it shaped into them becoming close friends where they could talk to each other about everything.

On the topic of Pink Slime, he said:

"There were tracks with Pharrell rapping, doing hooks. One of the tracks we did, actually, ended up on Travis Scott's album. I'm not gonna say which one. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that. It was dope! We put an EP together. And that was right before the resurgence of Pharrell happened. I would've looked cool...We had features, like this joint with Styles P; me, Pharrell and Styles P. One with me, Pharrell and Curren$y, all of us had a verse...I think, at that point, I had to make this decision — which I was proud of myself for making, that Pharrell is this artist who is this artist, years in the game who's up here. And I needed to cement my own identity and what I did first. I wanted to put out Watching Movies."

He also unveiled a project with him and Cam’ron they recorded that was going to be a Christmas album. How hilarious would that be?

"It's funny because we were going to do a project for Christmas, we were going to do a Christmas album. It was like around the same time I was gonna do the Pharrell EP. I was also gonna do a Cam'ron Christmas album. He wanted to do it like Step Brothers-themed. Looking back, I wish I [put it out]. But I've made, like, nine albums before putting this one [GOOD:AM] out."
