Kanye West Supports Black Lives Matter Protests With Tweet
The 11 million Kanye West followers on Twitter received a late night reminder that #backlivesmatter.
West posted his first tweet of the month (he rarely tweets), and it was a note about the ongoing nationwide protests on behalf of slain, unarmed Black men and youth, especially with the non-indictments of the officers who killed Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
"600,000 people rallied for justice on Dec. 13th #blacklivesmatter," he wrote, following a weekend of marching across the U.S. In New York City alone, at the Millions March NYC rally, tens of thousands showed including Nas and Russell Simmons. (Check out a recap in Musicians on the Front Lines.)
The message has been retweeted over 14,000 times and favorited over 18,000 times in the hours since West tweeted it.
