Denver Rapper KL Tha General Identified as Victim of Fatal Shooting
After an emotional day, friends, family and the Denver police have confirmed that rising rapper KL Tha General, née Kevie Durham, was the victim of a deadly bar shooting.
Durham was apparently performing at a bar called the Beach in the Colorado capital, where the incident occurred. According to reports, someone opened fire around 2:15 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 23), hitting multiple people, resulting in non-fatal injuries to two others, and killing Durham.
As of Sunday night, no arrests had been made.
Not much more has been revealed as yet. However, producer Russ P. adds that the world has lost a great talent, and that he's surprised by the violent death of his friend.
"This isn’t just another story of a rapper running around doing crazy stuff and ending up getting shot in the streets," he said. "This is different. He was a good dude, that’s all I can say. And he had a lot to offer, not only the local community as an artist, but the world.... It was just the beginning for this guy."
Russ, who was in the studio with Durham just last week, says that his popularity, which extends across the city, was already reaching national levels. He had a meeting scheduled in Atlanta with music execs before his passing.
A benefit for Durham's family will be held Tuesday at the Over There Off Hampden Bar and Grille.
