J. Cole's "Power Trip" Goes Platinum
J. Cole got his second platinum single this week. The RIAA certified his "Power Trip" featuring Miguel on Tuesday (July 15) for at least a million digital units pushed.
The song is his lead single from his sophomore studio album, Born Sinner, which made a notable sales jump of its own just last week when it moved up from the No. 2 spot on Billboard's 200 to No. 1. Similarly, "Power Trip" moved up from No. 21 to its current peak position of No. 19 on the Hot 100 chart.
Cole's first single to reach platinum status with digital sales was "Work Out," off his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. The song, which apparently "let Nas down," was certified double platinum in May.
Born Sinner as a whole also has helped to make Billboard history. With Jay-Z's MCHG debuting at No. 1 this week, this is the first time that hip hop has had four consecutive weeks at the top spot, securing the North Carolinian's record-setting place alongside Jay, Wale and Kanye West.
