Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar to Headline Yahoo's First International Music Festival
Yahoo hijacked headlines at SXSW in Austin, TX, this week with the announcement of a mega-music festival of its own. The multi-billion-dollar Web company shared plans for an international tour featuring Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and more during the "Interactive" portion SXSW’s festivities.
“Yahoo! on the Road” will make 21 stops between May 3 and July 14 including an opening date in New York and a finale in London. Those in attendance can expect "a daily mobile entertainment and innovation festival this spring/summer featuring the world's hottest bands, comedians, and surprise guests.”
J. Cole and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are on the bill, in addition to special guests Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Trey Songz, who will headline a string of London shows from July 9 through 14. The London stop coincides with the annual “Yahoo! Wireless Festival” and will be the grand finale of the tour’s inaugural run.
Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z will put on solo shows July 12 and 13 respectively before teaming up to give Englanders a taste of their collaborative “Legends of Summer” stadium tour on July 14. “The Wireless Festival” website says tickets to see the two mega-stars at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park were the fastest selling in festival history.
The U.S. portion of “Yahoo! on the Road” will travel through Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago and more through May 31, before going overseas to Berlin on June 11. Yahoo will document the international journey via their “Yahoo on the Road” site. Check the schedule to see when the “Yahoo on the Road” bus will be stopping in a town near you.
