Big Sean Grabs Three Nominations, BET Awards 2012
BET Music Matters artist Big Sean was among the stars who received nominations for the BET Awards 2012. The 24-year-old Detroit MC was nominated in three categories — Best New Artist, Best Male Hip Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for his song "Marvin & Chardonnay" with Kanye West and Roscoe Dash.
Fellow Music Matters artist J. Cole, who released his debut album, Cole: World: The Sideline Story, last year, earned a Best Collaboration nomination also for his addition to the remix of Beyoncé's "Party" as well as in the Best Male Hip Hop Artist category where he will go up against Drake, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy and Big Sean.
Wale's "Lotus Flower Bomb" featuring Miguel was also nominated for Best Collaboration and the Viewers' Choice Award.
All-Star BET Music Matters Showcase headliner Marsha Ambrosius and two-time Grammy winner Melanie Fiona will go up against each other as well as veterans Rihanna, Mary J. Blige and Beyoncé for Best Female R&B Artist. While Miguel will duke it out with R&B heavyweights Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz and Usher in the Best Male R&B Artist category.
Ohio rapper Stalley was nominated in the Best Group category as a part of Maybach Music Group and the 15-year-old Brooklyn MC Astro was nominated for the YoungStars Award. There will be some international flavor as well as British songstress Emeli Sandé is up for Best International Act: UK.
Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the BET Awards 2012 will air live from Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium on July 1 at 8 p.m.
