Tamia Reveals the Secret to Her Career-Family Balance
Tamia is currently on tour for her latest album, Love Life, but found some time to chat with the ladies of Cafe Mocha about her marriage, motherhood, and her health. The singer-songwriter also has the pleasure of being married to retired NBA player Grant Hill, with whom she has two children, so you know the women had to gush and talk about her relationship. When asked how she manages to balance her music career with family life, Tamia responded that she and her husband have their priorities straight.

“It’s certainly a juggling act,” she said. “My kids are 13 and eight, and they have their own things going on. And then, obviously, my husband is very busy doing his thing, too. So you find time. First of all, I don’t tour often and so we get enough time to really plan things ahead of time and look at the calendar.”
Tamia also said that her family doesn’t let their celebrity get to their heads. Instead, they’ve opted for a quieter life that allows her to enjoy their careers without completely sacrificing their privacy.
“We live a very as-normal-as-possible life,” she said. “Our children go first and you don’t really see us out a lot unless it’s something that we really are passionate about or we just feel like hanging out. For the most part we don’t feel like we need to be at every letter opening or showing our faces all over the place. We’re very fortunate that we both are doing what we love and we support each other in that.”
In 2003, Tamia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease in which your immune system attacks the protective layer that covers your nerves, according to the Mayo Clinic, and the ladies of Cafe Mocha asked about her health.
“I’m feeling well,” she assured them. “One thing that I think is very important is women’s health and making sure that we listen to our bodies and take care of ourselves. I also think it’s important how you approach life as well. One of the reasons why I don’t do reality TV is because I do believe that drama and stress and all of those things can have a negative effect on your health. I have two kids and a wonderful husband and I don’t have time for that.”
