Larry Wilmore Asks If America Should Reinstate the Draft
On last night's Nightly Show, Larry Wilmore covered the ongoing war on terror and whether Americans have enough investment in our military actions overseas. The discussion skewed more serious than we've grown accustomed to from the talk show host, but Wilmore still delivered the goods in his opening monologue, in which he called out beleaguered NBC news anchor Brian Williams and President Barack Obama.
"As a fellow purveyor of fake news," Wilmore began, "part of me sympathizes with Brian Williams."
"Look, I understand how stories get blurred over the years," he added, referencing Williams's now-debunked story about a helicopter he was riding catching fire in Iraq that sparked an internal NBC investigation. "Once I reported I cold-cocked George Foreman in his grill."
"Turns out, I just put cold cuts on a George Foreman grill," he said.
Wilmore compared Williams's confusion to the way most Americans feel about the war on terror. "I don't know if we won, I know we kind of left, but we're still kind of hanging out there?" the host said. "It's like when you graduate from high school and you still go to the dances and it's kind of awkward."

After calling out President Obama for comparing the brutality of ISIS to Christians during the Crusades, Wilmore opened up the discussion to his panel, which included author Wes Moore, filmmaker Negin Farsad, actor Michael McKean and Daily Beast correspondent Kimberly Dozier.
Moore, a combat veteran, pointed out that less than 4 percent of Americans are directly affected by the war and hence have no stake in its outcome, prompting Wilmore to question whether or not reinstating the draft would give more citizens skin in the game and thereby expedite the end of military action.
