Queen Latifah Partners With Netflix
Queen Latifah’s mogul ways continue to grow with each passing year. Now the producer, actress, rapper and Covergirl spokeswoman has gone into business with Netflix to help further distribute films produced by her Flavor Unit production company.
Latifah and her producing partner, Compere Shakim, have just entered into an exclusive licensing agreement for movies in the United States with the world’s leading Internet subscription service. Netflix will get to choose which Flavor Unit films they would like to premiere on their DVD and streaming movie service after the films’ theatrical release.
Starting in spring 2013, Netflix subscribers will be able to exclusively enjoy the Flavor Unit produced movies House of Bodies, starring Terrence Howard, and Percentage, starring Ving Rhames, Cam’ron and Macy Gray.
"Shakim and I are thrilled to do business with Netflix. Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects," Queen Latifah said in a statement.
Flavor Unit has released a string of popular and successful film titles, including Bringing Down the House, The Perfect Holiday and Beauty Shop. On the television front, the company has been responsible for the series Single Ladies and BET’s Let’s Stay Together. Flavor Unit also recently produced the all-African-American TV movie remake of Steel Magnolias, which attracted 6.5 million viewers. It was the third most-watched telecast that ever aired on a network.
