This week on Joy Behar: Say Anything!, Whoopi Goldberg revealed that Nina Simone personally told her that she wanted the Oscar winner to play her in a biopic. Behar said, "Didn't she tell you that you were her first choice?" Goldberg responded with an enthusiastic, "Yes!" Behar added, "You still should do that." Goldberg replied, "Well, you know, they got somebody younger, prettier and don't look nothing like Nina to do it." The Color Purple star sarcastically added, "That will make it really work." Joy added, "It won't work. Sorry!"
The Nina Simone biopic has been under months of scrutiny after Zoe Saldana was cast to play the late, great songstress. Viola Davis, India.Arie, Jill Scott and many others have sounded off on the casting choice. However, Whoopi's revelation is the first time we've specifically heard what Nina Simone would've wanted. 
Nina Simone passed away of breast cancer in 2003.
