The Biggest Loser 's Jillian Michaels Adopts 2-Year-Old Girl From Haiti
Jillian Michaels is a mom...times two!
The fitness guru and former Biggest Loser trainer-in-residence and her partner Heidi Rhoades welcomed two children into their home this month: a baby boy delivered by natural birth to Rhoades on May 3, and a 2-year-old girl named Lukensia, adopted by the couple from Haiti.
“We’re swimming in babies over here,” Michaels tells People.
The road to family was a long one for the couple. The television personality left her sweet gig on The Biggest Loser last year to "really focus on [the adoption process] and hopefully becoming a mother in the next year and putting all my energy into that for awhile.”
Michaels spoke candidly with People last year about the "incredibly long process" of adoption. At the time, she had been trying to adopt a baby from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “I’m terrified that [the country] will close, so I just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best and give it to God.”
Turns out, fate had something else in store. Michaels and her partner were completely surprised when their adoption from Haiti came through just weeks after Rhoades gave birth to their son.
“I don’t even answer email. I don’t have time to care about anything else,” she notes. “I want to be really present and enjoy all the nuances of their growth and development. I don’t want to rush any of it.”
Congratulations to the happy family!
