Eddie Murphy to Host the Oscars Next Year? \r

The legendary comedian is in talks for the big-time gig.

Eddie Murphy has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a career spanning over three decades and an Academy Award nomination for his role in the 2006 musical hit Dreamgirls, which helped Jennifer Hudson, 29, land her first statue from the Academy. Yet, he’s never hosted the Oscars.

But this could soon change, as reports have surfaced that Murphy, 50, and director Brett Ratner have been in talks over Ratner’s interest in hiring the funnyman to get the party crunk for the February 26, 2012, ceremony, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Ratner, who is a producer for the big-time celebration, is said to have only one name in mind — and that’s Eddie. The two recently collaborated on the comedy Tower Heist, also starring Ben Stiller, which hits theaters November 4.

It makes sense to have Murphy as a host, considering his career path from his work as a stand-up comedian to his stint as a Saturday Night Live cast member, to his trek to movie stardom Murphy's talent is made for the stage.

The official discussion with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science about Murphy's possible hosting gig is supposed to go down this Tuesday, September 6.
