Paula Patton Up for Part in Sparkle

The actress confirms offer for role in remake of 1976 film.

Paula Patton may be adding yet another coveted role to her ever-expanding list of film credits. The Jumping the Broom star has already scored a role in the Mission Impossible sequel. Will she soon be the star of an anticipated remake as well?

Shadow and Act reports that the actress has been offered a role in the Sparkle remake, in development by The Game creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband, director Salim Akil. Inspired by the legendary group The Supremes, Sparkle chronicles the harsh lives and careers of singer Sparkle Williams and her sisters.

The 1976 film remains a cult classic and would go on to inspire the Broadway play and subsequent film Dreamgirls. Shadow and Act says that Patton wouldn’t confirm which specific role she had been offered in the remake, but she did note that an offer has been made and she is considering taking on the role. She also added that the Akils expressed that they wanted her attached to the project from the beginning.
