White House Launches Site To Order Free At-Home COVID Tests

Residents can receive four per home.

Americans’ complaints of the difficulty in getting COVID tests have some remedy. The White House has launched a site for Americans to order rapid, at-home COVID tests right to their door. According to CNN.com, the White House is spending $4 billion to deliver the first 500 million tests.

The White House website is currently in its “beta phase,” but Americans are encouraged to place their free order for the tests now. The tests will be delivered at the end of the month.

COVID rates have increased nationwide, and the country is also contending with cases of what is being called “flurona,” in which a person contracts influenza and coronavirus simultaneously.

In late December, Israel confirmed its first case of “flurona,” which was detected in an unvaccinated pregnant woman, The Times of Israel reported. Flurona cases have been reported from Los Angeles to Texas to New York City.

Nadav Davidovitch, director of the School of Public Health at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, told CNN earlier this month that because of both high influenza and COVID activity there will be incidents of people being infected with both. "I don't think this is going to be a common situation, but that's something to consider," he said. "It's interesting that after you have a year with a very, very low or not at all influenza activity, the next year because people were less exposed, it makes them more vulnerable."

The symptoms of the COVID-19 omicron variant and the flu are similar. They include respiratory illness, weakness and sniffles.

The White House is also planning to distribute 400 million N95 masks, which can provide greater protection against COVID, to the public.
